If you’re venturing into the backcountry with your AT or splitboard setup, investing in avy gear should be your top priority. And investing in quality eyewear should be your second, especially if you’ll be spending time above the treeline. Since you’ll be putting in a lot of effort on the uphill to earn your turns, sunglasses are a great alternative to goggles because there is less chance of them fogging up, and they’re easier to adjust.

Odds are, you will experience all types of weather in the backcountry, so visibility is critical. Backcountry skiing and snowboarding require a strong sense of adventure and resilience for harsh elements. That’s where Ombraz comes in handy.

What makes Ombraz different from any other pair of sunglasses is Ombraz uses a 100% Recycled Japanese Nylon cord that wraps around your head and keeps them from falling off or slipping down your nose. With no sidearms, you can wear them all day long without causing discomfort on the side of your head. The polarized lenses help ward off the snow’s glare with 100% UVA and UVB protection. Ombraz’s sleek and armless design packs flat and is nearly indestructible, so once you’ve reached the top of the mountain, you can drop them around your neck or put them in your jacket pocket and not worry about them breaking. Once you reach the bottom of the hill, take your Ombraz out of your jacket or pack pocket, throw them on, and enjoy the après scene.

Ombraz Sunglasses are Nearly Indestructible

Ombraz Co-founder, Jensen Brehm, was on a camel safari in India when, “snap,” someone sat on his sunglasses. With an inherent Macgyver skillset, Jensen tied a piece of twine to both hinges and wrapped the twine around his head. The new glasses worked better than the original pair and did not slip down his nose, they were secure yet incredibly comfortable, and when he didn’t need them, he could drop them around his neck or throw them in his pocket without fear of breaking them. Lo and behold, Ombraz was born.

What sets Ombraz apart from other sunglasses brands is that Ombraz is the first and only armless sunglasses. Instead of traditional sidearms, it uses a 100% Recycled Japanese Nylon cord that wraps around your head. The built-in adjustable cord and no heavy arms allow you to wear the frames comfortably while enjoying your outdoor activity without getting that annoying ache on your ears. With no arms, screws, or expensive hinges, you never have to worry about breaking your sunglasses again.
