Itinerary

Day 1: Introduction to Mount Rainier National Park

Meet your guide and fellow travelers at a hotel near Seattle airport. After a brief orientation, we’ll drive to Mount Rainier National Park. Our first hike takes us around Reflection Lake, known for its stunning reflections of Mount Rainier. The trail meanders through alpine beauty with towering evergreens and panoramic views of the Tatoosh Range. As we ascend the Pinnacle Peak Trail, we are greeted by an epic ridge walk offering views extending infinitely in every direction. The trail’s high point provides a perfect perch for viewing Mount Rainier, given favorable conditions. After descending back to the trailhead, it’s a short drive to the historic Paradise Inn, our home for the next two nights.

Day 2: Explore Sunrise and Burroughs Mountain

Today, we hike the Burroughs Mountain Trail from Sunrise, the highest visitor center in the park at 6,400 feet. The trail offers unobstructed views of Mount Rainier and vibrant wildflower meadows in the summer. The stark, barren landscape contrasts beautifully with the lush green below. From Sunrise, you’ll get a different perspective of the mountain and the park’s grandeur. We return to Paradise Inn for another cozy evening.

Day 3: Old-Growth Forests and Waterfalls

Hike to Van Trump Park and Mildred Point, starting at Christine Falls. The trail ascends through old-growth forests and past the mesmerizing Comet Falls, a 320-foot waterfall that serves as a perfect respite on a hot day. The trail then continues to Van Trump Park, offering a front-row seat to Van Trump and Kautz Glaciers, where we’ll have a picnic lunch. The ascent to Mildred Point rewards hikers with expansive landscapes and glacier views. Tonight, we stay in Ashford and enjoy dinner at a local favorite.

Day 4: Pacific Coast Beach Hike

Transition from alpine forests to the wild Pacific coastline. Our destination is Ruby Beach in Olympic National Park, known for its sea stacks and driftwood sculptures. The beach hike reveals the raw power of the Pacific, with crashing waves and rugged shoreline beauty. We conclude the day at Kalaloch Lodge, perched on a bluff overlooking the ocean, providing a tranquil retreat.

  • Elevation Gain/Loss: Minimal
  • Transfer: 4.5 hours

Day 5: Hoh Rainforest and Rugged Coastline

Explore the Hoh Rainforest, walking among ancient moss-draped trees and lush undergrowth trails. This rainforest is one of the park’s most iconic destinations, home to diverse plant and animal life. The afternoon beach hike reveals natural arches, sea stacks, and tide pools. Return to Kalaloch Lodge for a restful evening.

  • Transfer: 3.5 hours

Day 6: Hurricane Hill and Return to Seattle

Hike Hurricane Hill, offering panoramic views and a fitting end to our adventure. This trail is known for its stunning vistas of surrounding peaks and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. After the hike, return to Seattle, arriving by early evening.

What to Expect

This trip is rated Moderate (Activity Level 3). Participants should be capable of hiking 4-6 hours daily (up to 7 miles) with steep ascents and descents, handling elevation changes of up to 3,000 feet. Trails include hard-packed dirt, shale, exposed roots, rocks, and some rock steps. Prior hiking experience and good physical condition are required.
